Lady Flames Take Series over Valdosta State With a Double Header Split

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Sadie Winsett drove in Katie Hastings to give the Lee University softball team the 4-3 win in the final game of the series over Valdosta State University. The Blazers won the first game of the day 4-2, but the Lady Flames took the series 2-1. Lee improved to 15-29 overall and 8-16 in Gulf South Conference action. The Lady Flames are now 8-2 at home this season. They will host Tusculum University on Tuesday in a double header beginning at 2 PM.
 
GAME 1
 
Lee got on the board in the first inning. After an Eva Armstrong walk, Sadie Winsett drove her in with a double. Madison Pinzon doubled the lead in the second inning with a solo home run.
 
VSU tied the game in the fourth behind two hits and an error. Carly Bogart singled and then Caitlin Cooke reached on an error. Rachael Lee brought then both home with a double. The final two runs for VSU came in the top of the seventh. Charlotte Phillips reached on an error. The Chloe Eichelberger doubled her home and then she scored on a single by Madison Van Allen.
 
Ella Baker took the loss for Lee in the circle. She threw one inning and gave up two runs on two hits. Sadie Winsett started and threw three and two-third innings and gave up two runs on four hits. Abigail Welbaum threw two and one third innings.
 
VSU outhit Lee 7-6 Winsett had two and Kaylee Wilson had two.
 
GAME 2
 
The scoring didn't start until the fifth inning in the second game of the day. VSU scored first when Eichelberger drove in Phillips and Lee with a three-run home run. It would the only runs for VSU in the game.
 
Addison Emmerson answered back for Lee in the bottom of the fifth with a triple. She then scored on an error by VSU. Then in the sixth, Hayden Gardner singled and was pinch ran for by Reese Haun. Alyson Jarvi then tied the game with her tenth home run of the season.
 
Lee won the game in the seventh. Katie Hastings led the frame off with a single. After two outs, Hailey Simco singled to put runners on the corners. Winsett then walked the game off with a single to score Hastings.
 
Layne Bailey earned the win for Lee. She threw two innings and only gave up one hit. Kaylee Underwood gave up three runs on six hits in five innings.
 
The Lady Flames outhit VSU 10-7. Simco had three hits while Jarvi had two.
