CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University men's tennis team completed its regular season with a 7-0 win over Montevallo Sunday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The 12
th-ranked Flames improved to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in the GSC. The Falcons dropped to 4-9, 1-6 GSC.
Prior to warmups, the Flames held a small ceremony to recognize their senior members: Quinn Groenendijk and Filipe Krohn.
Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimarães opened doubles action with a 6-3 win over the 26
th-ranked team of Guilherme Gracioli and Simon Luigs. Stefan Mos and Krohn secured the doubles point for Lee with a 6-4 win against Samuel Maia and Luiz Gobbi at No. 2 doubles.
The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished with Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen tied 4-4 with Christian Bacher and Leonidas Lazarides.
Krohn, ranked No. 13 in singles, pushed Lee's advantage to 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Bacher at the top spot. Mos posted wins in the first and third sets against Gracioli to win their No. 3 singles contest. The competitors traded 6-2 scores in the first two sets before Mos won the final set 6-3.
Langerhuizen clinched the team victory with a three-set win over Maia at the second position. Maia won the first set 7-5 before Langerhuizen fought back to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-1.
Guimarães was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles against Lazarides. Razminas and Roberto Leal dropped just one game each in their wins over Edgar Dufresne and Gobbi, respectively.
The Flames await the GSC Men's Tennis Championship where they will enter as the No. 2 seed. They will be matched against seventh-seeded Delta State on April 23. The single-elimination event is scheduled for April 23-25 at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.
