Lady Flames Softball Drops Doubleheader To UWA

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University softball team saw their three-game win streak snapped on Saturday with two losses to the University of West Alabama. UWA won the first game 6-2 and then took the nightcap 7-5. Lee fell to 17-31 overall and 9-18 in GSC play. The two teams will wrap up the series at 1 PM on Sunday.
 
GAME 1
 
The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the first. Haley Shannon singled and then Ann Marie Stanbridge double to score Shannon. Stanbridge came around to score after a couple of groundouts.
 
UWA made it 3-0 in the fourth inning. La'tavonia Parke singled to score Trinity Hatcher in the inning. Lee answered with their only two runs in the fourth. Hayden Gardner, Sadie Winsett, and Alyson Jarvi all singled in a row to load the bases. Madison Pinzon had a sacrifice fly to score Garnder. After a Katie Hastings fly out, Hope Barnett reached first on a UWA error and allowed Winsett to score.
 
Parke hit a solo home run in the sixth and Standbridge hit a two-run home run in the seventh to give UWA six runs.
 
UWA had eights with two errors to Lee's five hits. Winsett was the only one with more than one hit in the game as she had two.
 
Kaylee Underwood started and took the loss for Lee. She threw four and one-third innings. She gave up three runs on five hits. Abigail Welbaum gave up three runs on three hits in two innings. Ella Baker threw two-thirds of an innings and had a strikeout.
 
GAME 2
 
West Alabama jumped out quickly again in game two. Stanbridge hit a solo home run to make it 1-0. UWA added three runs in the second. Two, hits, two errors, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch gave UWA the 4-0 lead.
 
The Lady Flames answered right back in the bottom of the second. Gardner and Jarvi both walked and then Addison Emmerson hit her fourth home run of the season to give Lee three runs and make it 4-3.
 
Lee tied the game in the third. Hailey Simco singled to lead the inning off. Eva Armstrong had a sacrifice bunt to move Simco over to second. That was followed by walks for Winsett and Gardner. With the bases loaded, Lewis hit a foul ball to right field that was caught and Simco was able to score to tie the game. 
 
The lead was short lived as UWA scored two more runs on the fourth. A double, another error and sac fly brought the two runs in to give UWA the 6-4 lead. The final run for UWA came in the fifth with a solo home run from Trinity Hatcher. 
 
Lee managed to score one more run in the seventh. Hastings singled but was put out on a fielder's choice when Madison Pinzon reached base. Pinzon was brought home by a triple from Simco to give Lee their fifth run and make it a 7-5 final.
 
UWA outhit Lee 10-7 in the contest. Simco had three hits while Hastings had two. Emmerson's one hit gave her three RBI.
 
Sadie Winsett started the game in the circle. She threw one and one-third innings and gave up four runs on two hits. Layne Bailey threw five and two-thirds innings in relief and gave up three runs on eight hits.
