CLEVELAND, Tenn. –The University of Alabama scored runs in four different innings as they defeated the Lee University Lady Flames 8-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers won all three games in the series and now sit in a tie for first place in the Gulf South Conference. Lee fell to 17-32 overall and 8-19 in GSC play. Lee will go to Trevecca Nazarene University for a critical series next weekend.
UWA hit a solo home run in the second innings. Trinity Hatcher hit one over the right field fence and that was the only runs the Tigers needed. In the third UWA had two more runs on two hits and an error. Ann Marie Standbridge and Ella Watson singled and then ShaKeira Washington and Kayla Morris each had RBI.
The Tigers made it 5-0 in the sixth behind two more hits and a stolen base attempt. Trinity Brooks and Carolyn Cagle each singled and then Haley Shannon had an RBI. The final three runs came in the seventh. Ella Watosn reached on an error. Hatcher doubled her home, and Washington then finished it off with a two-run home.
UWA outhit Lee 13-4 and they left seven on base while Lee had two errors and four base runners stranded.
Eleanor DeBlock for UWA threw seven innings and struck out seven Lee batters. Hailey Simco had two hits, Addi Emmerson and Katie Hastings each had a hit and Hastings was walked.
Kaylee Underwood took the loss. She threw five and two-thirds innings and gave up five runs on nine hits and had two strikeouts. Ella Baker threw one-third inning and gave up three runs on two hits. Layne Bailey threw one inning and gave up two hits.
