Lee Men Third in Opening Round of GSC Golf Tourney

DICKSON, Tenn. – Top-ranked West Florida fired a 4-under par 284 and holds the first-round lead in the 54-hole Gulf South Men's Golf Championship being played at Greystone Golf Club. Mississippi College is second after posting a 3-under 285 while Lee finished with a 1-under 287 to hold down third place. Valdosta State (+2, 290) and Union University (+3, 291) round out the top five after the first 18 holes of play.
 
In the individual competition, Joao Iglesias, Mississippi College is the leader after firing a (-6, 66). Trace Robinson, Union followed at (-3, 69), while Todd Mckie, Mississippi College (-2, 70) is third. TJ Thompson, West Florida (-2, 70), holds down the fourth spot. Lee' George Cordall and Cooper Tendick, West Florida are deadlocked for fifth at (-1 71).
 
Lee's Drew Zielinski and Bennett McNabb fired (E, 72). Teammate Tucker Wick had a (+1, 73). Billy Boroughs finished (+2, 74) to round out the Flames' scoring.
 
Play will continue with 18 more holes on Tuesday and the tournament will wrap up with the final 18 on Wednesday. A total of nine teams and 45 individual players are taking part in the event.

Coach Even Spence's Thoughts:

"Yeah we got off to a really good start. We faltered a little bit at the turn today but I like the fact we didn't have any double bogeys on the cards today and kept it mostly clean."
