NASHVILLE, Tenn. –It was a late rally for the Trevecca Nazarene University softball team as they defeated Lee University 9-7 on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped Lee to 10-20 in Gulf South Conference action and eliminated them from qualifying for the upcoming GSC softball championship. The Lady Flames will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend with a series against Delta State University.
Lee scored the first run of the game in the first inning. After a Katie Hastings single, Hayden Gardner hit a double. Alyson Jarvi brought Hastings home with a sacrifice fly. Trevecca tied the game in the bottom of the first without a hit. A walk, hit by pitch, sac bunt and an advance allowed a run to score.
In the second, TNU had three singles to plate another run and take the lead. In the fourth Lee's offense got rolling. Addi Lewis singled to start and then Jarvi and Sadie Winsett both walked. Madison Pinzon brought them all home with a grand slam. She hit her fourth home run of the weekend.
Trevecca retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Two doubles, two walks, a single, an error, and a hit by pitch lead to four runs crossing home plate and giving the Trojans a 6-5 lead. Lee answered right back in the fifth. After a Hastings walk, Garnder hit a two-run home run to give Lee the 7-6 lead.
The Trojans tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with their own solo home run. The final two runs came in the sixth off another two-run for the Trojans.
TNU outhit Lee 13-8 with both teams committing one error. Addi Lewis had three hits and a run scored in the loss. Gardner had two RBI on two hits. Pinzon had just one hit but brought in four RBI with the grand slam.
All four Lee pitchers threw in the loss. Kaylee Underwood threw one and one-third innings and gave up two runs on two hits. Abigail Welbaum threw one and two-thirds innings and gave up one hit. Layne Bailey threw two innings and gave up five runs on seven hits. Ella Baker threw one inning and took the loss. She gave up two runs on three hits.
