PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Lee University softball team dropped their fourth straight game as the University of West Florida won the opening game of the three-game series 8-3. Despite Lee scoring two runs in the first, the Lady Flames could not hold on for the win. Lee fell to 13-26 overall and 6-13 in GSC action. The two teams will return for a doubleheader beginning at 2 PM EST on Friday.
 
Hailey Simco led the game off with an error in centerfield. Eva Armstrong then got on safely with a fielder's choice. Sadie Winsett reached safely on a bunt while Simco was retired at third. An Addi Lewis double score Armstrong and Winsett to give Lee the 2-0 lead. UWF answered right back in the bottom half of the first. UWF used two singles, a walk, double, and a wild pitch to score three runs.
 
UWF added two more runs in the second. Two more singles, another wild pitch, and a stolen base made it a 5-2 game. In the fourth, the Argos took advantage of two more hits and an error by the Lady Flames to make it 7-2.
 
Lee got a run back in the fifth. Madison Pinzon doubled and then Hailey Simco singled. Simco then stole second base and reached third on an UWF error. Pinzon came home to score on the error. UWF scored their final run in the fifth. A double and two groundouts plated the eighth and final run for UWF.
 
Lee only managed four hits in the game, and no one had more than one hit. Lewis had two RBI.
 
Kaylee Underwood started the game and went one inning. She gave up four runs on four hits. Layne Bailey threw four innings and gave up four runs with only two being earned on four hits. Ella Baker threw one inning in relief.
