Lady Flames Lose Final Regular Season Road Match 7-0 To West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 31 Lee University women's tennis team lost 7-0 at No. 5 West Alabama in its final road contest of the regular season. The GSC contest was held Friday afternoon at Vaughan Tennis Complex. The Lady Flames fell to 7-5 overall and are now 2-4 against GSC competition, while the Tigers improved to 15-3, 4-1 GSC.

The eighth-ranked doubles team of Shaira Rivera and Alexa Milliam opened doubles competition with a 6-2 defeat of Rima Yoshida and Andrea Pascual Blanca. Valentina Mutilba and Jenaila Prulla beat Maria Fernanda Duarte and Aliyah Dwyer 6-2 at the second position to secure the doubles point for UWA.

The final doubles match was left unfinished with Nanoka Kazama and Greta Zawels leading Jasmine Ibegbulam and Nicolette Fuhr 4-3.

The top two singles matches were contested between ranked opponents. At the top position No. 11 Rivera defeated No. 23 Yoshida 6-3 and 6-1. In the second spot No. 16 Milliam held off No. 61 Pascual 7-6 in the first set with a tiebreaker of 9-7. Milliam completed the straight-set win with a 6-4 margin in the second set.

Mutilba won her first set with Dwyer 7-6 following an 8-6 tiebreaker and finished the win at No. 3 singles 6-1.

Jian Ibrahim clinched the team win for the host team with a three-set win over Vitória Maximiliano. Ibrahim won the opening set 6-1 and Maximiliano won the second 6-4. Ibrahim won the superset tiebreaker 10-3 to claim the win at No. 4 singles.

No. 74 Prulla was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles. Kazama, ranked No. 46, completed the shutout with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Fuhr.

The Lady Flames return to action next Friday against Auburn University at Montgomery. The GSC contest is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start at the DeVos Tennis Center.
