Goodenow is a former left-handed pitcher for the powerful Vanderbilt University baseball program and also spent one season at Lipscomb University. He received a degree in Sociology at Vanderbilt and a master's degree in Conflict Management/Negotiation from Lipscomb. Richie and his wife Lesley have one son, Oliver.
During the 2010 NCAA Regional, Goodenow was named the MVP after hurling a two-hit shutout against the University of Louisville. Also, in 2010, he paced the Commodores in appearances (31) and innings pitched 44.1. He also recorded 47 strikeouts and only issued 12 walks.
Said Coach Mark Brew, “Richie has made a tremendous impact on our pitching staff. He had a great playing career at Vanderbilt and pitched for arguably one of the top pitching minds in current Cincinnati Reds pitching coach Derek Johnson. Richie has proved to be one the best developers of pitching talent and he has a great pitching staff to work with this upcoming season.”
