Megan Smith enters her second year as head coach after being the interim coach for the 2024 season. She is the third head coach in the history of Lee University women's lacrosse. When former head coach Derrel Martin took over the program five years ago, Coach Smith was hired as his assistant coach to help build a competitive program in the Gulf South Conference.
In her first two seasons, she has competed in two of the toughest schedules in all of division two. In 2024, the Lady Flames battled six teams in the top 25 and finished the season at 9-9. In 2025, Lee played eight games against teams in the top 25 as the Lady Flames went 5-12.
She helped Coach Martin build a competitive program in the Gulf South Conference. Coach Smith played a vital part in establishing a zone defense for the Lady Flames as well as heading up the recruiting efforts. She was promoted to Associate Head Coach in July of 2023.
Under her guidance, goalie Kaleigh Bernard was named the GSC Defender of the Year in 2021 as the Lady Flames won the program's first GSC Regular Season Title.
Nothing came easy for Lee's interim lacrosse leader in 2024. The schedule was loaded with Florida teams. The Lady Flames finished the slate with a 9-9 mark and seven of the nine defeats came to colleges from the Sunshine State. It was Flagler College, a powerful Florida squad that finished 18-3 that knocked the Lady Flames out of the GSC tournament.
Coach Smith was a standout player for Limestone College from 2011-15. She was a captain her senior year and helped lead the Saints to four straight Conference Carolinas regular-season titles, three league tournament titles, an appearance in the NCAA D2 Quarterfinals (2013 and 2015) and a berth in the national championship match in 2013.
After graduating from Limestone in 2015 she served on staff as an assistant coach working with the goalies while overseeing aspects of recruiting and player development. Coach Smith then took over the Converse College women's lacrosse program for one season before joining the staff of Chowan University as an assistant coach for one year. She is also a Committee Chair for the IWLCA Annual Meetings.
Coach Smith also works overtime with extra projects. She helped lead the Student Athletic Advisory Committee for the Lee Athletic Department. She received the prestigious IWLCA Service Award in 2021 and again in 2023. Through her leadership the Lady Flames won the IWLCA Community Awareness Award in 2022 and 2023.
