BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Former Lee men's golfer and All-American Shea Sylvester was named Honorable Mention Gulf South Conference All-Decade the league office announced on Tuesday.
Sylvester was named an All-American during a fantastic senior year (2016-17). He finished third that year at the GSC Championships and led the Flames to a second straight runner-up finish and trip to the NCAA South Super Regional. Sylvester was named All-South Region and All-GSC his junior and senior seasons. In 2016 he was named a semifinalist (top 30) for the prestigious Jack Nicklaus Golfer of the Year award. In hisÂ
"Shea had an outstanding career here at Lee University. He set many records, and was one of the top players in the country his senior year. To be a great team, you have to have individuals that can lift up everyone around them, and Shea was that player for us," said Lee Director of Golf, John Maupin. "He was a major part to our successful transition to Division II, and he certainly belongs in the conversation of top players in the GSC this decade."
Sylvester finished his outstanding four-year career with the Flames with a 73.00 scoring average. His 71.38 scoring average his senior season is the lowest in the storied history of the Lee men's golf program.Â
West Florida's Chanlder Blanchet was named the GSC Men's Golfer of the Decade while his coach Steve Fell took home Coach of the Year honors. Blanchet was the individual national champion and Arnold Palmer Golfer of the Year in 2017, a three-time All-American and All-South Region member and a four-time All-GSC selection. The Argonauts as a team dominated the men's golf landscape over the decade with seven GSC titles, two regional championships and four trips to NCAA Match Play.
