Harold Smith has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Male Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week after guiding the Lee Flames to a 10th-place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic last Saturday.
Smith is the second Lee runner to win the national honor joining freshman Seth Eagleson (Sept. 9).
The freshman from Cleveland was the top finisher for the Flames, crossing the finish line of the 8K race at 25:00.95 to place eighth overall. Smith set the school record for the 8k run previously set  by Johnny Clemmons (25:25) in 2008.Â
"Harold's performance was unbelievable. He ran better than a lot of DI team's top man and ran the same time as UT's No. 1 did in the gold race," said head coach Caleb Morgan.
Smith and the Flames will have a couple of weeks off before they head to Hardeeville, S.C. to run in the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 25.
