Kayla Beavers has been named Lee University's Female Athlete of the Week after hitting the game winner in the Lady Flames' incredible comeback victory over West Georgia last Saturday.

The junior from Bradley Central High School in Cleveland drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help complete an amazing 70-69 comeback victory for Lee over the Wolves.

The Lady Flames trailed for much of the contest and found themselves staring down a 66-59 deficit with just under a minute left in the contest. The comeback effort was jumped started by freshman Shelby Brown who scored six of her 10 points in the final moments. Senior point guard Alex Swope added a timely layup and the Wolves missed four foul shots to open the door for the game-winner by Beavers.

Lee pulled out the improbable victory while playing the final two minutes without any timeouts remaining.

"I thought we showed a lot of guts down the stretch," said head coach Marty Rowe. "Our players listened to the coaches and made several good decisions. Alex's layup was huge in the final minute and on the last play we told her to go right at them and if they guarded her to kick it to KB (Beavers) for the win and that's exactly what she did."

There was no doubt in Rowe's mind that the shot was going in, "The only thing I was worried about was if she was going to get it off in time. As soon as it left her hands on I knew it was in."

Beavers finished with 13 points, swiped three steals and canned three treys in the contest. The sharpshooting guard is averaging 6.9 ppg and is hitting a sizzling 40.4 percent from behind the arc.
