Women's Cross Country senior Jessica Childers has been named Lee University's Female Athlete of the Week.

Jessica Childers led the Lady Flames to a first place finish on Friday at the Royals Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. Childers was the first Lee runner across the finish line. The Englewood, Ohio native's time of 18:41.2 was third-quickest among non-DI runners and 15th out of 324 overall.

"This was our women's best race as a team all year," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. "Everyone went out today and did their part. It has been exciting coaching this group of women. They consistently get better every race. This is exactly what our women's team needed going into the GSC Championship."

"Jessica and Audrey (Smith) have been consistent leaders for this team and show up each week ready to race no matter the circumstances. I am thankful for the leadership and example they set for our team," added Morgan.

Childers and the Lady Flames will race next at the GSC Championship in Florence, Ala. Oct. 24 at 10 a.m.
