Senior first baseman Ben Holland has been named the Lee University Male Athlete of the Week after capping off a tremendous season at the Gulf South Conference Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. last weekend.
Holland showcased why he was named the GSC Player of the Year as he went 5 for 9 with a home run, four runs scored and five RBI in two games. The native of Murfreesboro, Tenn. finished with a .424 average, 23 doubles, 18 home runs, 54 RBI and a .859 slugging percentage.
Lee came up just short in two comeback efforts at the GSC Tournament falling to West Florida, 11-7 on a walk-off grand slam in game one and losing 10-9, after coming back from a 10-2 deficit, in game two against Alabama-Huntsville. After the completion of the four-day event, Holland was named to the GSC All-Tournament team. Delta State won the conference crown after going a perfect 4-0.
Holland and the Flames finished the 2016 campaign at 30-18 overall and were 18-11 in the GSC.
