BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lee's Keevin Tyus has been named the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Alabama Huntsville's Malik Cook-Stroupe has been selected as the GSC Freshman of the Week.
Tyus recorded a double-double in the Flames' lone game last week, leading them to victory over Brescia University (Ky.). The senior scored 30 points and grabbed 10 boards in addition to a pair of blocks and an assist.
Through three games this year, Tyus is averaging 24 points per game. Tyus and Delta State's Devin Scmidt are the only two players in the league to reach at least 30 points in a game, and both players have done it twice. For the year, Tyus is shooting 73.7% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line. Also, he averages seven rebounds per game.
Tyus and the Flames will be in Palm Beach this weekend, facing host Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Lynn University (Fla.) on Sunday at 2 p.m. It is all a part of the Joe McCormick Classic and the Gulf South/Sunshine State Crossover. Valdosta State will be the other GSC representative in the two-day event.
The Flames will return home on Dec. 3 and will open GSC play against rival Shorter University.
