BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lee University men’s basketball forward Ryan Montgomery was named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
Montgomery was instrumental in the Flames’ overtime win over North Georgia, scoring 14 points, including a clutch 3-ball in the final minutes of overtime, while securing seven boards, and dishing out a pair of assists. Off the bench, Montgomery shot 62.5% from the floor and was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
On the season, the Chattanooga Central High School product is 7-for-10 from three-point range. The 14 points were a career-high for Montgomery. Despite being picked last in the GSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Lee is off to a 5-2 start and is 1-0 in conference play. The Flames will host Mississippi College on Thursday at 8 p.m. and Delta State on Saturday at 4 p.m. before the Christmas break.
