AUSTIN, Texas – Lee women's basketball standout Erin Walsh has been named to the 2017-18 Academic All-America® Division II Basketball First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The senior guard from Knoxville, Tenn. maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA as a Health Science major while leading the Lady Flames to a 24-8 record and the program's historic first NCAA Tournament victory this season. The Lady Flames defeated North Alabama, 64-62 in the NCAA South Region Quarterfinals before falling in overtime to Valdosta State, 63-57 in the semifinals last weekend.
Walsh finished her brilliant four-year career with 1,824 career points to move to No. 6 on Lee's all-time scoring list. She was named to the All-GSC First team and D2CCA All-South Region second team after averaging 12.9 ppg and canning 87 3-pointers. Walsh is a three-time all-conference selection and was named all-region in her sophomore and senior seasons.
"Erin had a great season and certainly deserves both these honors. Her commitment on and off the court for our basketball program sends a great message to what a true student-athlete looks like," said head coach Marty Rowe. "For her to be recognized on both the national and regional level just shows how much people respect her as a player and it's a great way for her to complete her career. She is a great representative of our school and basketball program!"
The six CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II women's basketball first team members hold a composite 3.94 GPA. Seven members, including Walsh, of the 16-player first, second and third teams honorees hold a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.
