BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the second straight week Lee University right-hander Alex Butler has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Butler started and went five innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five in earning the victory over West Alabama, 5-1 on Monday.
"Butler didn't have his best stuff, but he battled and gave us another quality start," said head coach Mark Brew after the GSC doubleheader with West Alabama on Monday.
The Baylor School product from Chattanooga is 2-0 on the season with a 1.29 ERA. The Flames and Butler will step out of conference play to host Urbana University (Ohio) this weekend in a three-game series, beginning Saturday at 12 p.m.
