BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For Lee men's golfer Beck Burnette it's been a pretty good adjustment to the college game as he earned Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Month the league announced on Thursday.
Burnette, a native of Blairville, Ga., is off to a hot start recording three rounds under par and two top-20 finishes in his first two collegiate tournaments. Burnette finished tied for 10th at the Kiawah Island Invitational after firing a 74 in round one and a sizzling 5-under par 67 in round two.Â
He came right back two weeks later at the Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga., and finished tied for 17th with rounds of 69, 72 and 69 to lead the Flames to an impressive fifth place finish, placing ahead of five top-20 programs.
"This is a great recognition for Beck to start off his career with. He's been a good contributor to our first two tournaments of the season, and I'm looking forward to seeing whats else this season has in store for him," said Lee head coach John Maupin.Â
Burnette and the Flames jumped into the top 25 after two impressive showings to start the fall and ranked No. 17 in the latest GCAA Top 25 poll. The Flames will tee it up again on Monday and Tuesday as they take part in the Golfweek Division II Fall Invitational from Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
