Volleyball player Paula Martins has been named Lee University's Female Athlete of the Week after leading the Lady Flames to the NCCAA Mid-East Region Championship last weekend at Walker Arena.

Martins led the Lee attack with 56 kills in four victories over Union, Mid-Continent, Victory and Campbellsville. The senior middle blocker saved her best performance for last as she delivered 18 slams in Lee's 3-1 victory over the two-seeded Lady Tigers in the final match of the region tournament.

The Rio De Janiero, Brazil native was named the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament Most Valuable Player and a member of the All-Region team.

Martins and the Lady Flames will now prepare for the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. Lee will open up with Roberts Wesleyan College on Dec. 5 at noon.
