Starting pitcher Jeremy Stawychny has been named Lee University's Male Athlete of the Week after guiding the Lee baseball team to an opening day 6-0 victory over Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon.

Stawychny (1-0) started the game and worked six scoreless innings giving up just one hit while striking out five. The senior right-hander was very efficient throwing just 68 pitches.

The Chicago, Ill. native worked primarily as a set-up man last season and helped guide the Flames to a seventh consecutive trip to the NAIA World Series. Stawychny will now be called on to anchor the staff as Lee begins play in NCAA II and the Gulf South Conference.

"I thought our pitching was fantastic today" remarked coach Mark Brew after Lee completed the Saturday doubleheader sweep of Emmanuel with a 5-0 victory in game two.

Stawychny and the Flames will welcome Kentucky State to Olympic Field for a three-game set beginning on Friday (Feb. 7) at 3 p.m.
