Emmanuel Kipchumba has been named Lee University's Male Athlete of the Week after a strong showing in last week's National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Indoor Track and Field National Championships from Bourbonnais, Ill.

Kipchumba anchored the team that scorched the field in the men's 4x800 meter relay. The foursome of Justin Knuth, Terris Elliott, Adam Gullette and Kipchumba crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of runner-up Olivet Nazarene University (8:05.23) to claim the national title.

Kipchumba would also receive All-American honors for his individual performance in the men's 800 meter. The sophomore from Kenya posted a time of 1:57.54 to finish third.

"It's a dream come true for me," admitted Kipchumba. "I've been working hard with my coaches and my teammates. I give credit to my teammates who work very hard. We've been pushing very hard and it's not been easy. I've always been talking about being an All-American and finally I have it. It's a privilege and I am so happy for it."

Kipchumba and the Flames will now set their sights on the spring season as they open things up on Mar. 21 at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
