Lee's second-ranked women's soccer team jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 4-0 win over visiting Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The victory moved the Lady Flames to 12-1-1 overall and 9-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference standings.
Four different Lee players scored and junior Ashley Aragona dished off a pair of well-played assists. Freshman Christina Bovbjerg put Lee on top 1-0 at the 4:09 mark of the first half. Aragona garnered the assist. The scoreboard clock showed 2-0 when Ode Fulutudilu tallied on a beautifully played assist by senior Caroline Scales. Sophomore Chloe Woody's goal with just over seven minutes remaining in the first stanza pushed the margin to 3-0. Aragona picked up her second assist on the play.
The final goal of the afternoon was recorded by junior Debbie Rogers. Woody set up Rogers with the assist ball. All totaled the Lady Flames fired 28 shots and 10 very on goal. Ashley Robinson had five saves in goal for the Warriors. Carley Wright came on late to post one save.
Lee's defense controlled the match. SWU was only able to get off two shots and neither were on target. The defeat dropped the South Carolina team to 5-9-1 on the season and 1-8-1 in SSAC competition.
The Lady Flames will play their final regular-season home match on Wednesday, hosting Truett-McConnell College at 5 p.m. They will close out the regular-season campaign on Oct. 27 at Brenau University (Gainesville, Ga.). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
