Lady Flames Race Past Barons, 10-0

Women's Soccer Improves to 8-1 and Remains Unbeaten in SSAC

Ali Eisnaugle had two goals and two assist in Lee's victory

MT. VERNON, Ga. – It was bombs away for the streaking Lee women’s soccer team on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Flames came out hitting the target in the opening minutes and proceeded to hand Brewton-Parker College a stinging 10-0 defeat.

Seven Lee players got into the scoring act and seven contributed assists as the second-ranked Lady Flames improved to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in Southern State Athletic Association play. The Barons dropped to 0-11-1.

Assistant coach Chris Walker also picked up the first head coaching win of his career. Walker was filling in for head coach Matt Yelton. His wife, Tamara, had knee surgery on Tuesday.

Junior Charlotte Canlett got the Lady Flames on the board with just over a minute gone in the first half. She locked on to a loose ball and kicked it into the back of the net. Canlett would later add an assist.

It didn’t take sophomore Alison Braun long (3:10) to get her name in the scorebook.  Leah Fortune hit Braun with a cross and she made it a 2-0 match. Fortune, also a junior, finished with a pair of assists and also made it a 3-0 match at the 8:10 mark. Senior Caroline Scales and Marie Eliassen assisted.

Eliassen turned right around with a goal of her own and the freshman would finish with a pair of assists. It was already 4-0 when another freshman Christina Bovbjerg got on the board (14:46). Canlett and Eliassen assisted. The margin grew to 6-0 at the break after a Lee score was ruled own goal.

Wednesday could have been declared “Freshmen Day.” The first two scores of the second 45 minutes were recorded by freshman Melin Niedermayer. The first came at the 46:23 mark and the second at 50:10, making it a 8-0 contest.

It was senior Eisnaugle turn to grab a share of the spotlight. After joining sophomore Brianna Prugh in assisting Niedermayer twice, Eisnaugle’s goal made it 9-0. Debbie Rogers was credited with the pass into the box for Eisnaugle’s tally.

In fact Eisnaugle and Rogers hooked up again to make the final margin reach 10-0. On this occasion Eisnaugle headed Rogers’ pass into the back of the net.
All totaled Lee’s rapid fire totaled 37 shots and 22 were on the mark. Taylor Alley was able to register 13 saves, which very well could be a Brewton-Parker record. The Barons only got off three shots (two on goal) and Lee keepers Leah Wilson and Elyse Cottrell came away with a save.

The Lady Flames will be back in SSAC action on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. in the first of two matches against visiting Emmanuel College.
