It took the Lee women's soccer team over 62 minutes to get its scoring motor warmed up in the semi-final round of the NCCAA Mid-East Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Once the host Lady Flames got the scoring machine going they put four goals on the board in just 16 minutes en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over another member of the Gulf South Conference, Union University.
Lee will wait for the outcome of the Campbellsville and Mississippi College match to determine its opponent in the championship final on Saturday at 4 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, senior Ode Fulutudilu broke the scoring ice in the 62nd minute on an assist from freshman Kinsey Cichowitz. Less than six minutes later, another freshman, Kaela Leskovar, got her first goal of the year on Fulutudilu's assist.
The scoring surge continued in the 74th minute when freshman Summer Lanter knocked in her 13th goal of the season. Fulutudilu continued to lead the newcomers with her second assist of the afternoon.
The game's final tally came on a 20-yard strike off the strong foot of senior Debbie Rogers. Lee's defense held the Lady Bulldogs to only three shots and the one on goal was picked off by keeper Haley Gribler. The Lady Flames had 21 shots and placed 11 on target. Union keeper Emily Waggoner had 11 saves.
The victory improved the Lady Flames, ranked No. 1 in the NCCAA poll, to 13-3-1. It was also their third consecutive shutout. Union finished its season at 7-7-3..
