Bryan Advances to 800 Meter Run Final

Four Runners Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes

Cayce Bryan advanced to the final of the 800 meter run with a time of 2:11.90.

MARION, Ind. – Cayce Bryan gave the Lee University track team three event finalists in the 2013 NAIA Track & Field Championships by advancing out of the preliminary round of the 800 meter race.

Bryan recorded the second-fastest time of the day with a mark of 2:11.90. Hillary Holt of College of Idaho led the field at 2:11.66.

The 800 meter run final is scheduled for 4:50 p.m. EDT Saturday afternoon.

Joining Bryan in final events on Saturday are Ashley Matthews and Mike Walker. Matthews will run the marathon at 6 a.m. and Walker will take on the 3000 meter steeplechase at 2:20 p.m.
Brad Davis failed to qualify for Saturday’s final of the 100 meter dash. The freshman finished 13th in the preliminaries with a time of 10.60.

Also on Friday, the 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Scholar-Athletes were announced. Earning NAIA Scholar-Athlete status were Matthews, Emily Arnesen, Emily Carden and Zack Orrison.

The Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete program recognizes excellence in the classroom by NAIA-member student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer. The awards are given annually to outstanding student-athletes in the various sports in which the program is active and their respective teams are eligible for NAIA postseason competition.
