Women's Soccer Defeats Valdosta

Fourth Straight Shutout For Surging Lady Flames

Box Score
VALDOSTA, Ga. - Kinsey Cichowitz scored on an assist from Kaela Leskovar in the 56th minute and freshman goalkeeper Erin Olsen came off the bench to play what coach Matt Yelton termed as "an outstanding performance" to help give the Lee women's soccer team a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Valdosta State University on Sunday afternoon.

It was the fourth consecutive shutout by the Lady Flames and the second straight Gulf South victory. It also marked the second consecutive 1-0 GSC win and gives Lee a 3-0 conference record and improved its overall record to 4-3-1. It was also Valdosta's first conference defeat and dropped the host Blazers to 2-1 in league play and 3-4 overall.

"It was a really good performance by our girls, especially coming off a tough win on Friday and then bouncing back to defeat a quality club this afternoon," remarked Yelton. "We defended well like our club has done most of the season and had a couple of other people step up their games to allow us to pull out the result."

Olsen came on to play over 87 minutes in goal after starter Marbel Egweenu injured a knee. "We don't know how serious the injury is," said Yelton. "We will have to examine Marbel's knee on Monday to determine the severity. Our entire team gave an unbelievable effort and it was great to come away with the win."

Valdosta fired nine shots overall and had six on goal. Olsen recorded all six saves. The Lady Flames were selective with their shots and had five on goal. Olivia Mills was credited with four saves in the loss.

"We have to come back from three solid conference victories during the past week and get ready for an even bigger challenge next Friday," admitted Yelton. West Florida, the defending Gulf South champion and a long-time NCAA Division II power, will visit the Lee Soccer Field for the primetime event slated for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
