HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Lee volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-20) to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Tuesday evening in Gulf South Conference (GSC) action.
The Lady Flames were playing on short rest after hosting four matches in two days over the weekend in the annual Lee Invitational. Lee went 2-2 in the tournament.
The Chargers came out of the gate fast taking the first four points in set one to force an early timeout by the visitors. Lee grabbed a brief lead at 9-8 on a kill by Latrice Johnson before the home team regained control to finish with a 25-21 victory.
After dropping set two the Lady Flames appeared to gain some momentum in set three as they held a 20-19 advantage. The Chargers would go on to score the final six points however to seal the straight-set victory.
Sophomore Erin Hill led the offensive attack with 10 kills on a .269 hitting percentage. Senior Lauren Williams followed with nine slams while Johnson added five kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Junior-transfer Haley Foote set up the offensive with 19 assists to give her 150 on the season. The Deland, Fla. native averages 3.85 assists per set.
UAH was led by Anna Claire Johnson with 12 slams. Olivia Bauman added seven kills and Kirsten Giles chipped in 13 assists. Kennedie Lariscy anchored the back line with 16 digs.
Lee now falls to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in GSC play. The victory moves Alabama-Huntsville to 7-6 on the year and 5-4 in conference matches.
The Lady Flames will look to get back in the win column as they continue their conference road trip on Friday night against Christian Brothers in Memphis. First serve is set for 8 p.m.
