Softball Dominate in Sweep of Hiwassee

Lee outscores Lions, 45-0




The Lee University softball team opened up the 2015 campaign in dominating fashion as it completed a doubleheader sweep of Hiwassee College on Saturday afternoon at Butler Field.

The Lady Flames outscored the Lions by a 45-0 margin in the two games. Lee game two starter Angie Hughes pitched her third career perfect game and struck out nine.

It didn't take long for the bats to warm up despite the nip in the air as Lee scored 24 first inning runs en route to a 33-0 run-rule victory over Hiwassee in game one.

Every starter scored at least three runs in the contest as the Lady Flames pounded out 23 hits in just four innings.

Amanda Lynn tripled and scored four times. Lexie Dean followed with a triple, double and four runs scored. Dominique Hannah was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Junior transferEmily Dagnan started her Lee career with a bang as she homered, drew three walks and scored four runs.

Freshman Leigh Beatenbough started and recorded the win for the Lady Flames. Beatenbough struck out three and walked one in three innings of work. Brianna Eichbaum worked the final two frames in the circle. The Tipp City, Ohio native struck out three while giving up a pair of hits.

Barnes singled in the fourth and Larson doubled in the fifth to account for the Lions' offense.

LEE 12, HC 0
Paced by a perfect game from Hughes the Lee ladies completed the sweep of the Lions with a 12-0 five-inning victory in the nightcap. Hughes struck out nine of the 15 batters she faced.

Lynn stroked two singles, walked twice, stole two bases and scored a pair of runs to ignite the offense in game two. Hannah posted a double and a single. Beatenbough started at first and roped two singles.The Lady Flames tallied nine hits and drew seven free passes.

Lee will look to carry the momentum down to the sunshine state next week as they participate in the Flager Tournament from St. Augustine, Fla. The Lady Flames battle Barton College on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. On Sunday Lee tangles with host Flager College (10 a.m.) before wrapping up the weekend with Embry-Riddle (12 p.m.)
