Volleyball Stumbles at Union

Lady Bulldogs Sweep Lady Flames, 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Lee volleyball team has found life on the road difficult as of late and that proved to be the case in Tuesday's 3-0 defeat at the hands of Union University.

The Lady Flames are 7-3 from the friendly confines of Walker Arena but are just 1-6 on the road and 0-3 at neutral site matches. Lee is currently 8-12 overall and 4-7 in league play.

Union (6-14, 5-6) edged the Lady Flames 26-24 in set one and 25-23 in set two. The third and final set was not a close call as Lee fell 25-13.

Junior Catherine Conley led the attack for the Lady Flames with nine kills. Sophomore Brooke Wilsman and Junior Blaire Beamer added six slams each. Freshman Hillary Hoffpauir set up the offensive with 14 assists while Sadie Johnson rotated into the setter position to tally seven helpers.

Defensively Freshman Emily Philpott and Conley recorded three blocks and senior libero Stephanie Hernandez recorded eight digs.

Abby Schebel and Deja Moorer paced Union with nine kills each while Casi Neff added eight slams and six blocks. Hannah Huguley played a role in most of the points with 35 assists. Moorer would chip in 12 digs while Elise Seufert roamed the back line for 11 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs exacted some revenge on the Lady Flames after Lee swept Union at Walker Arena back on Oct. 6.

The Lady Flames will return home to the sport court on Friday evening as they host North Alabama at 7 p.m. Lee will play two matches on Saturday as it battles Alabama-Huntsville at noon and Trevecca Nazarene at 5 p.m.
