Visiting North Alabama battled back from a 18-13 deficit in the first set and went on to defeat the Lee volleyball team 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 on the sport court in Walker Arena on Friday evening.
The Lady Flames stunned the visitors from Florence, Ala. for a large part of the opening set, but after a couple of timeouts the Lions regrouped, won the opening set and then turned back several comeback attempts by Lee in the last two sets in posting the key Gulf South Conference victory.
The Lady Flames had 14 kills and a solid .294 attack percentage from Sylvia Sartori. She also had nine digs. Catherine Conley added 10 kills and a pair of blocks, while Hilary Hoffpauir dished off 29 assists and also came up with four digs. Stephanie Hernandez followed with 12 digs.
North Alabama was paced by the solid net play of Natasha Forina, 11 kills and a blistering .500 attack percentage. She also had five blocks. The Lions were balanced up and down the net as Andrea De Leon distributed 30 assists to go along with her three aces. Victoria Quintanilla added six kills and four blocks to the winning total.Â
The Lady Flames will have little time to regroup. A talented Alabama Huntsville visits Walker Arena on Saturday at 1 p.m. After a short break, Lee will return to the sport court and face Trevecca Nazarene at 5 p.m.
