Softball Series Finale Cancelled

Lady Flames Host Tennessee Temple Wednesday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –  With wet and cold weather conditions persisting the series finale between the Lee softball team and Alabama-Huntsville scheduled for Monday afternoon has been cancelled. The Lady Flames will return home and step outside of conference play to battle Tennessee Temple on Wednesday at Butler Field. The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.

The Lady Flames sit at 9-6 on the young season and are 1-4 in league play. The Chargers are now 10-3 and remain unbeaten in GSC play at 5-0.

Game Two – LU 3, UAH 8
Thanks to quality pitching in both games the ninth-ranked Alabama-Huntsville Chargers swept Lee in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Crazy weather conditions in Cleveland over the weekend forced the Lady Flames to play a home game on the road as they squared off with the Chargers.

The Alabama club got a complete game performance from Emily Glover (1-3) en route to an 8-3 victory over the Lady Flames in Sunday's nightcap.

Glover allowed just four hits and struck out three and was aided by an eight-run outburst from her offense. She surrendered three runs (one earned) to earn her first victory of the season.

Amanda Lynn tripled and Emily Dagnan roped a RBI double to pace the Lady Flames offensive effort. Dagnan drove in three of the six runs Lee socred on Sunday. Third baseman Kaylie Drew hit a solo homer in the second frame to briefly tie the score at 1-1. Drew has launched three long balls this season and is hitting a .326 on the year.

Angie Hughes (5-3) started and was tagged with the loss for Lee. The junior tossed three-plus innings and gave up eight runs on eight hits. She walked two and struck out three. Brianna Eichbaum pitched four scoreless innings in relief. The freshman yielded just two hits and struck out a pair.

The Chargers opened things up with three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Bannister led the attack with a homer, a single and three RBI. Brianna Sullivan finished with three hits, drove in two and scored twice.

Game One – LU 3, UAH 4
The Lee softball team fell, 4-3 in game one of Sunday's GSC doubleheader with No. 9 Alabama-Huntsville.

The Chargers jumped out to an early lead scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the first. The Lady Flames responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a two-run homer from Emily Dagnan. The junior-transfer catcher leads the team with three home runs on the year.

Haley Thompson followed with a run scoring single to tie things back up in the second inning for the Chargers. Once again Lee answered as Rachel Polacek singled home Leigh Beatenbough to put the Lady Flames up, 3-2 after two innings of play.

After a scoreless third inning for both squads the Chargers would take the lead for good on a two-run double by Thompson. She finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Leigh Beatenbough (3-3) started and went the distance for the Lady Flames. Beatenbough was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs, three earned on eight hits. The freshman struck out eight and walked one.

Two Alabama-Huntsville pitchers combined efforts in the circle in game one. Tyler Harrison (5-0) started and worked the first four innings for the victory. She gave up just two earned runs, two hits and struck out five. Kimberly Jack earned the save (2) in relief as she pitched the final three innings and did not allow hit while striking out four.

The Lady Flames committed four errors in the contest but surrendered just one unearned run. The Chargers left eight runners on base while Lee stranded a pair of runners.
