Lauren Peters goes high in the battle against West Florida on Sunday
Box Score
West Florida scored at the 3:01 mark in the first half and then held off a determined Lee comeback in the final 86 minutes to post a 1-0 victory over the Lady Flames on the Lee Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.

Marjorie Bollesen drilled in a direct kick from 20 yards out to produce the game-winning score. It was her eighth goal of the season and likely the biggest of her career.

The remainder of the match turned into an extremely physical battle between two teams fighting it out for the top spot in the Gulf South Conference standings. The win improved the Argonauts to 7-0 in GSC play and 9-3 overall. Lee stands at 5-1 in the conference and 8-2-1 overall.

"Hats off to UWF," said a disappointed Lee coach Chris Hennessey. "They were the better team today and deserved to win. Right now we need to improve the way we start games."

The Lady Flames were able to get off only three shots the entire afternoon and placed none on target. The Argonauts attempted 11 shots and had four on goal. Lee keeper Haley Gribler recorded three saves.

West Florida had three corner kicks in each half and the Lady Flames had one in the first half and two in the second half.

"It was a well-played soccer match," noted West Florida veteran coach Joe Bartlinski. "I'm sure these two teams are going to meet again before we wrap up our soccer season."

The sixth-ranked Lady Flames will have four days to regroup and get ready to host West Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. They will travel to Alabama Huntsville next Sunday and be pitted against the Chargers in a 2 p.m. match.

"It's important we respond positively for next weekend," stressed Hennessey. "The regular GSC season is still a long way from the finish line."
