No.18 Chargers Sweep Lady Flames

Series Finale on Sunday


 

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Lee softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 18 Alabama Huntsville on Saturday afternoon from Charger Park.

The two clubs will wrap the Gulf South Conference series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Lee falls to 9-6 on the year and 2-3 in league play. Alabama Huntsville improves to 15-2 and a perfect 8-0 in the GSC.

Game 1 – LEE 3, UAH 4
The Lady Flames rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie things up at three only to see the Chargers walk off in the bottom half of the inning for a 4-3 win in Saturday's opener.

Abby Roberts sealed the Chargers' victory as she doubled home Kaitlyn Bannister with one out in the final frame. Bannister doubled twice and was perfect 4 for 4 at the dish.

Leigh Beatenbough (1-1) was tagged with the loss for Lee but was effective overall in four innings of relief of starter Angie Hughes. Beatenbough allowed two runs on four hits and struck out a pair. 

Hughes labored through 2 1/3 innings allowing two runs, three hits and six free passes. The senior struck out two.

Lee catcher Emily Dagnan hit a sacrifice fly and second baseman Nia Ceasar added a run-scoring single to briefly tie the contest at three in the top of the seventh.

Freshman Hallie Davis continued her solid start to the season with a RBI double in the sixth inning to get the Lady Flames on the board.

Senior Lexie Dean added a double and a single for the Lady Flames and continues to hit over .500 on the year. Freshman Stevie Baird also recorded a double and was 2 for 3 with a run scored.

Tyler Harrison improved to 8-2 on the year tossing all seven innings for the Chargers. She worked around 10 hits and allowed three runs (one earned) to go along with eight strikeouts.

Game 2 – LEE 3, UAH 11
A six-run fourth inning opened up game two as the Chargers raced past the Lady Flames in Saturday's nightcap.

Alabama Hunstville's Bannister continued a sizzling day at the plate with three more hits and drove in five runs to key the run-rule (six innings) victory. Haley Thompson added single, double and four RBI. 

Lee's Brianna Eichbaum (4-1) allowed five runs in three innings. She walked five and give up three hits. Leigh Beatenbough tossed 2/3 innings and yielded three runs on three hits. Hailey Clark would follow with two innings of relief and struggled with command giving up four walks, three runs and two hits.

Kimberly Jack (3-0) pitched six innings and surrendered seven hits and three runs while striking out four.

Baird recorded Lee's only extra base hit with a double. Davis got the Lady Flames on the board with a RBI single in the third inning. 

Leadoff hitter Amanda Lynn added a pair of singles for the Lady Flames.
