Softball Falls To No. 18 Chargers In Series Finale

Dean Continues Sizzling Start with Two More Hits


 

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The No. 18 University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers scored in every inning but one to complete a three-game sweep of the Lee softball team, 8-5 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Flames jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second as Hallie Davis scored on a wild pitch and Stevie Baird singled home Courtney Crawford.

From there the Chargers would add single runs in the second, third and fourth innings before opening up a comfortable 8-3 advantage with a four-run fifth frame.

Abby Roberts provided the big blow for the home team as she delivered a bases loaded, bases clearing double. Savannah Smith added a pair of hits and while Jordan launched a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Brianna Eichbaum started and pitched two innings for the Lady Flames. The Tipp City, Ohio native gave up two runs on one hit. She walked three and had two punch outs.
Angie Hughes (3-4) worked four innings in relief and was the losing pitcher. She gave up six runs on seven hits and walked five batters.

Lee pounded out 13 hits in the contest but the Lady Flames couldn't find the big hit, leaving 10 runners on base. 

Lexie Dean continued her sizzling start to the year at the plate with a double and a single and leads Lee with a .544 average through the first 16 games. NiaRaye Ceasar doubled home a run in the seventh inning and added a single. Freshmen Davis and Baird also had two-base knocks in the contest.

Courtney Crawford, Hailey Clark and Emily Dagnan all recorded two singles each for the Lady Flames to round out the offensive attack.

Three Alabama Huntsville pitchers combined to help seal the victory. Tyler Harrison tossed the final three frames and allowed two runs on four hits to pick up her ninth win of the season. Emily Glover started in the circle and allowed three runs in two innings. Kimberly Jack worked around five base hits to throw two scoreless innings. 

The Lady Flames fall to 9-7 on the season and are now 2-4 in Gulf South Conference play. The Chargers improve to 16-2 and are a perfect 6-0 in league play.

Lee will look to end its three-game skid on Wednesday as they host Lincoln Memorial for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. from Butler Field.
