VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lee softball team dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader with Valdosta State, 8-0 and thanks to rain showers in game two were forced to settle for a 7-7 tie with the game called in the seventh inning.
The Lady Flames now sit at 12-21-1 and are 2-17-1 in league play. The Blazers improve to 24-8-2 on the season and are 12-7-1 in the GSC.
Lee will step out of conference for a mid-week doubleheader with Brevard College before welcoming GSC foe West Alabama to Butler Field on Saturday for a three-game weekend set.
GAME 2 – LEE 7 VSU 7
After washing out Friday's opener the rain showers reappeared in the seventh inning of Saturday's nightcap between Lee and Valdosta State.
The Blazers just did beat the rain, tying things up with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run by Jaime Phillips.
Lee Freshman Hallie Davis gave the Lady Flames the advantage as she launched her seventh home run of the season, a two-run blast, in the fifth inning. Davis finished with three RBI.
Nia Ceasar also homered for Lee. Ceasar made it 5-2 Lady Flames with a two-run homer in the third frame. The senior finished with two hits and two RBI.
Chelsea Canara helped jump start Valdosta early with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. She ended the contest with three RBI.
Angie Hughes started for Lee and gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) in her three innings of work. Brianna Eichbaum tossed three innings of relief and allowed just one hit, two walks and two runs.
Huntyre Eling got the nod in the circle for the home team. She lasted 2 1/3 innings and gave up six hits and four runs (three earned). Caitlyn Calhoun came on and yielded three runs on five hits in four innings.
GAME 1 – LEE 0, VSU 8
The Blazers flexed their muscles in game one shutting out the Lady Flames, 8-0 to score the five inning run-rule victory.
Calhoun (15-4) dazzled in the circle for Valdosta tossing all five innings and allowing Lee just three hits while striking out three.
Leigh Beatenbough (3-8) was hit with the loss and she worked 2 1/3 innings and was tagged with eight hits on seven runs (six earned). Hailey Clark came on to pitch the last 1 2/3 innings and allowed one run on hit.
Emily Dagnan doubled to provide the lone extra base hit for Lee. Amanda Lynn and Davis also singled in the contest.
Brandy Morgan led the way for the Blazers at the dish. She hit a solo homer in the second inning and roped a two-run single to center in the third. Heather Robinson launched a solo home run for Valdosta in the fourth inning to help push the margin to eight runs.
