WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Lee University men's and women's track & field teams combined for seven top-10 finishes Friday and Saturday at the Camel City Invitational. The event was held at the JDL Fast Track.
Justin Brooks recorded the best finish of the weekend for the Lee squads. He posted a time of 48.81 to win the 400 meter.
Seth Eagleson was third in the 5000 meter with a mark of 14:59.05, while Amy Carpenter stopped the clock at 17:55.46 to place fifth in the women's 5000 meter. Eagleson's time was a new school record and ranks at No. 22 nationally.
"Eagleson ran a great race and showed a lot of poise against some very competitive DI competiton," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan.
Josiah Brooks gave Lee its fourth top-five finish with fourth place in the 200 meter. He recorded a time of 22.37.
Christian Noble posted a time of 8:30.41 to place sixth in the 3000 meter. His time is the 24
th-best time in DII so far this season. Thomas Kelton was 36
th (9:05.82) and Tucker Hindle finished 40
th (9:16.18).
"The track was flat instead of banked, so all times were converted," explained Morgan. "Christian's 8:30.41, for example, converted to an 8:24, which is a provisional qualifier."
The men's distance medley relay team of Brandon Raleigh, Justin Brooks, Harold Smith and Noble crossed the finish line in sixth with a time of 10:16.05. The mark is the 12
th-fastest recorded at the DII level this season.
"The men's distance medley relay had a solid race. We will need to run faster if we expect to stay in the top 12. The top 12 make it to nationals," added Morgan.
Adrian Martin posted the 10
th-fastest qualifying time (7.72) in the 60 meter and finished 18
th (7.87) following the semifinal round. Kiley Brock was 39
th (8.12) in the qualifying round. Martin and Brock also competed in the 200 meter with Martin finishing 13
th (25.75) and Brock crossing the finish line at 26.83 (38
th).
For the men, Josiah Brooks was 12
th (6.94) and Justin Brooks was 15
th (6.98) in the qualifying round of the 60 meter. Justin posted a time of 6.99 in the semifinal to finish 12
th and Josiah was 17
th (7.02).
Audrey Smith set a new school record in the 3000 meter. Her time of 10:21.78 put her in 18
th. Blakely Moore was 27
th (10:53.58), Logan Hernandez finished 30
th (11:00.32) and Lily Fell was 33
rd (11:12.23).
Harold Smith led a contingent of four Flames in the 800 meter. Smith finished 12
th with a time of 1:56.68. Raleigh was next in 25
th (1:59.81). In 37
th was Alex Carter (2:02.38) and at 48
th was Moises Ponce with a mark of 2:05.90.
Smith and Ponce were joined by Jared Herzog in the mile run. Smith finished 23
rd (4:22.89), Ponce was 38
th (4:29.90) and Herzog placed 42
nd (4:32.75). Madison Hodges was 32
nd (5:41.18) in the women's mile run.
Jessica (Childers) Gullette placed 20
th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:20.30. Lacey Duvall was 25
th (2:23.64) and Charlee Boxall was 26
th (2:23.86).
Jordan Allison finished 31
st (1:00.89) in the 400 meter and posted a time of 9.90 in the 60 meter hurdles qualifying round.
Derek Flatford's time of 9.17 in the 60 meter hurdles put him 36
th in the qualifying round. He was also 21
st in the long jump with a distance of 6.40 meters.
"We had a lot of personal records this weekend. We are progressing the way we should be and picked up one additional provisional qualifier with Noble in the 3000 meter," Morgan summed up.
The Lady Flames and Flames return to the Birmingham Crossplex for the Samford Invite. The two-day event will be contested on Feb. 10-11.
