LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After pitching there way to a 3-0 shutout in game one the Lee softball team settled for a doubleheader split at West Alabama falling in the nightcap, 3-1.
The Lady Flames are now 25-11 and 10-7 in the Gulf South Conference. The Tigers move to 18-19 and 9-11. The 25 wins for Lee match their win total for all of last season with a full month of regular season action remaining on the schedule.
The two teams will decide the series winner tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
GAME 2 - LEE 1 UWA 3
Andrea Edmonds came right back after throwing nine innings in game one to fire a near perfect seven frames in game two as West Alabama defeated Lee, 3-1 in game two.
Edmonds allowed just two hits, one run and struck out seven to improve to 14-15 on the season. The lone mistake was a solo home run to Taylor Moran in the fourth inning. Lee's fantastic freshman had both of the Lady Flames' hits in the contest.
Abby McKinney was tagged with the loss as she started in the circle and went 1 1/3 innings. McKinney allowed four hits and two runs, one earned. Hailey Clark came on to pitch 3 2/3 innings of relief. Clark kept Lee in the contest allowing just one unearned run on four hits. Moran came back on to work a scoreless sixth frame and struck out one.Â
Ashlend Rodriquez got the Tigers on the board in the second with a bases-loaded single off McKinney. They would extend the lead as Ashley Smart scored on a passed ball. The final West Alabama run came off a Lee error in the third frame.
GAME 1 - LEE 3 UWA 0Â
Thanks to a combined six-hit shutout from Leigh Beatenbough and Taylor Moran the Lee softball team outlasted West Alabama, 3-0 in nine innings to open the Gulf South weekend series on Saturday.
Pitching was the name of the game as the two teams went scoreless for eight innings before the Lady Flames struck for three runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Abby McKinney singled home Stevie Baird to finally put the Lee on the board. Following the McKinney hit, Courtney Crawford scored on a wild pitch. Brooklynn Frazier added an extra insurance run with an RBI double to score McKinney.
Beatenbough tossed the first 4 1/3 innings allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five. Moran (8-3) was sensational in relief firing the final 4 2/3 frames allowing just two hits to accompany four strikeouts.
Andrea Edmonds (13-15), the workhorse ace of the Tigers staff was the tough luck loser. Edmonds pitched all nine innings allowing three runs on five hits. She struck out 10 and walked just two batters.
Audrey Diekmann led the West Alabama offense with two singles and two walks. Chelsea Lobitos also had two singles but the Tigers never mounted a serious rally the entire contest.
