YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - Â The Lee softball team settled for a doubleheader split at Young Harris College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Flames took the opener, 7-3 before dropping the nightcap, 14-5.
The Lady Flames (29-13) will now head to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers in a GSC three-game series beginning Friday at 1 p.m. The Mountain Lions are now 36-10 on the season.
Game Two - YHC 14 LEE 5
The Mountain Lions roared out to a 10-run lead and never looked back en route to a 14-5 victory over the Lady Flames in game two.
Hannah Harrison delivered the big blow in an eight-run first inning with a three-run home run. Harrison finished with four RBI and two runs scored. Webb was a perfect 3 for 3 and Nix added two hits as Young Harris pounded out 13 hits in the contest.
The Lady Flames were led by Brooklynn Frazier who doubled home two runs in the third inning and hit a solo home run in the fifth frame. AnnaBeth Pruett and Kayla Louie each tallied two singles. Louie finished the day with five hits.
Taylor Moran (9-4) was tagged with the loss after she failed to work out of the first inning. She surrendered eight runs on six hits but only two were earned. Abby McKinney came on in relief and allowed six runs in the final 3 1/3 innings.
Kovalsky (18-5) tossed all five innings for the win. She allowed eight hits and five runs but only one was earned.
Game One- LEEÂ 7 YHC 3
The Lee softball team used a five-run third inning capped off by a Taylor Moran two-run home run to top Young Harris College, 7-3 in game on Tuesday afternoon.
Leigh Beatenbough (14-5) started and tossed five innings in the circle for the Lady Flames to earn her team-leading 14th victory of the season. The junior fought through some control issues to keep the Mountain Lions at bay. She walked five and scattered four hits while striking out three. Moran followed that up with two scoreless innings of relief striking out a pair.
After Young Harris jumped out to a two-run lead in the second inning the Lee offense responded with five runs in the very next inning. Abby McKinney jump started the rally with a two-run double. Brooklynn Frazier followed with an RBI single before Moran capped off the inning with her fifth home run of the season.
Lee extended the lead to 7-2 in the fourth inning on a Young Harris fielding error and a Beatenbough RBI single. All totaled the Lady Flames pounded out 11 hits in the contest as 8 of the 9 batters tallied hits. Kayla Louie led the way with three singles and scored a run.Â
Jeanie Perucci started and lasted 2 2/3 innings as she gave up seven hits and five runs. Perucci suffered just her fifth loss of the season and now stands at 17-5 in the circle. Nikkie Kovalsky came on in relief and was effective in 4 1/3 innings. She yielded just two unearned runs on four hits.
Young Harris scored on a fielding error off of a Chandler Stooksbury double and an RBI double from Georgia Webb. The Mountain Lions tacked on a solo run in the fifth on a triple by Hannah Harrison.
