Lady Flames Fire Past CBU In DH Sweep

Moran Tosses Complete Game in Friday's Night Cap



MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Thanks to stellar pitching and timely hitting the Lee softball team swept a doubleheader from Christian Brothers on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Flames (31-13, 17-9) will look to complete the series sweep of the Lady Bucs (6-37, 0-26) and keep them winless in conference play on Saturday at 12 p.m.

GAME 2 - Lee 3 CBU 1
Moran twirled a complete game and allowed just one run while strucking out six to guide the Lady Flames to a 3-1 victory in the night cap.

The freshman righty is now 10-4 on the year with a GSC-leading 1.29 ERA. She scattered five hits and did not walk a batter.

The Lee offense pounded out 15 hits (14 singles) in the contest but managed just three runs while leaving 13 runners on base.

For the second straight game the Lady Bucs scored first. Rizzo singled home Johnson who tripled to but the home team up 1-0.

The Lady Flames responded in the second as Stevie Baird delivered an RBI single. Beatenbough followed with a run scoring one-base knock in the third inning while Zoe Miller finished the scoring with a single up the middle to score the final run.

Brooklynn Frazier and the lone extra base hit for Lee when she doubled and scored in the third.

Schassburger (3-14) was the losing pitcher for Christian Brothers as tossed just 2 2/3 innings allowing eight hits and two runs. Anderson came on to work an inning of relief and allowed a run while Jenna Cotter tossed three scoreless frames to finish the game.

GAME 1 - Lee 4 CBU 1
After being held in check for five innings the Lee softball team broke through with a four-run sixth inning to beat Christian Brothers in game one of Friday's doubleheader.

Trailing 1-0 heading to the sixth the heart-of-the-order, all freshmen, came through for the Lady Flames as the No. 3 hitter Abby McKinney tied things up with a sacrifice fly. Frazier followed with a two-run homer down the left field line to give Lee the lead. She leads the club with eight home runs and 44 RBI. Moran made it back to back jacks as she launched a solo shot left center to end the rally.

Leigh Beatenbough (15-5) made the lead stick as she tossed all seven innings in the circle and allowed just one unearned run. The junior ace allowed just three hits and struck out a pair while working around four walks.

Cotter (3-14) was tagged with the loss for Christian Brothers. Cotter breezed through the first five frames allowing just one hit before giving up the four runs in the sixth. She lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on four hits. Julia Schassburger threw the final 1 1/3 innings and did not allow a run.

The Lady Bucs scored their lone run when leadoff hitter Amber Johnson advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error.
