Volleyball Sweeps King For Third Straight Win

Lady Flames Finish Opening Weekend at 3-1

HARROGATE, Tenn. –The Lee volleyball team capped off a successful opening weekend at the Lincoln Memorial Invitational with a dominating 3-0 blanking of King University on Saturday evening.

The Lady Flames finished the event at 3-1, winning three straight after falling to the Railsplitters in the opening match on Friday. Lee will travel to Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday evening before playing their home opener on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. against NCAA D3 powerhouse Emory University.

Led by Silvia Sartori's 13 slams the Lady Flames recorded 36 kills and posted a .293 hitting percentage to earn their first sweep of 2017. The stingy Lee defense limited the Tornado to a .081 attack percentage.

The Lady Flames won a tightly contested first set, 25-22 before cruising to victories in sets two and three by a combined score of 50-32.

Quinne Daoust, a sophomore transfer from the University of Arizona, posted eight kills and had three blocks while Alex Reuter pitched in six kills and had 23 total in Saturday's two victories.

MaKayla Beebe slid in for 11 digs while Sadie Johnson set up the offense with 16 assists to go along with eight digs of her own.

"It was great to see the girls win tonight. We had a phenomenal weekend out of Quinne on the right side and both setters were on point which really helped our hitters," noted head coach Andrea Hudson. "We still have a lot work to do before conference play but I feel we will be ready."

Cathy Scaniffe led King with 10 kills and Tristyn Lozano added seven. Abby Anderson recorded a match-high 26 assists. The loss drops the Tornado to 1-2 on the young season.

It appears a powerful duo is forming for the Lee volleyball team on the frontline early in the 2017 season as Sartori and Reuter both registered 17 kills in a 3-1 victory over Mars Hill University on Saturday morning.

Sartori has picked up where she left off last season before missing the final few matches with an injury. The junior outside hitter finished the weekend with 61 kills in four matches.

The Lady Flames jumped out early on the Lions (1-1) in the first set as they cruised to a 25-17 victory. Lee won a back-and-forth second set 25-23 before falling by three (25-22) in the third set.

The Lady Flames ended the match on a 6-2 run to complete the victory with a 25-21 fourth set triumph.

Reuter, who played her first two seasons at Trevecca Nazaerene, teamed with Sartori to take down the Lions as she posted a blistering .500 hitting percentage for the match.

"It was another great performance by some key players. Alex was key for us in the middle against a team with strong middles," said Hudson. "Allie (Koepfer) was able to play today as well and really stepped up for the team after Brooke (Wilsman) had to leave the game with an arm injury."

Wilsman played the first two sets before leaving with the match due to injury. Koepfer, a freshman from Knoxville, Tenn., stepped in and recorded three kills and 11 digs in Wilsman's absence.

Setting up the offensive was the setting duo of Sadie Johnson and Kristi Farley. The two seniors rotated in and combined for 43 assists.

Sally Anne Johnson had 11 kills to lead a balanced attack for Mars Hill. Maddie Spurgeon followed with 10 and Rebecca Bulter added nine. Sarah Pasour posted a double-double for the club out of the South Atlantic Conference as she dished off 24 assists and tallied 15 digs.

Sartori also made her presence felt on the defensive end with 23 digs while libero MaKayla Beebe patrolled the back line and added 15.
