GVSU BIG MEET - FRIDAY RESULTS
EMERSON, Ga. – The 38
th-ranked Lee University men's track & field team competed at the Dunamis Super Meet at the LakePoint Champions Center and came away with six top-four finishes.
Josiah Brooks led the way with second-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and triple jump, while finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash. Justin Brooks recorded a win in the 200-meter dash and a second-place finish in the 400-meter run. Evan Hansen placed third in the high jump with a height of 1.90 meters.
Josiah Brooks recorded a mark of 14.82 meters in the triple jump and leapt 6.58 meters to finish 11
th in the long jump. His time of 6.87 seconds in the 60-meter dash met the provisional mark, but it did not improve upon his 6.85 time set at the Camel City Invitational.
Justin Brooks equaled his provisional-qualifying mark of 21.63 in the 200-meter dash to record the win. Josiah was fourth in the event with a time of 21.78. Justin posted a time of 48.36 in the 400-meter.
Teagan Lenox placed 19
th (52.51) in the 400-meter run and was 33
rd (23.65) in the 200-meter dash. Jovan Jones was right behind Teagan in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.66. Jones finished 18
th (7.32) in the 60-meter dash.
Jared Herzog, Moises Ponce and Casey Guthery finished in the top 15 of the 800-meter run. Herzog (1:57.86) was sixth, Ponce finished 12
th (2:04.20) and Guthrey (2:07.31) was 15
th.
Ponce was the top Lee finisher in the mile with a time of 4:29.61. Thomas Kelton placed 14
th (4:35.32), Caleb Eagleson finished 19
th (4:37.22) and Guthrey crossed the line at 4:38.33 (21
st).
Daniel Surman was sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.05 meters.
While the rest of the team was in Emerson, Ga., Christian Noble and Harold Smith were at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., for the GVSU Big Meet – Friday event.
Smith finished 11
th overall in the 800-meter run with an NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark of 1:52.34. It is the top time recorded in the South Region so far this season. Matt Molinaro of Ohio Northern was the race winner at 1:50.23.
"Harold did exactly what we expect a senior to do," said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. "He had a great race and has put himself in an optimal position with just two weeks of competition left."
Noble ran in the 5000-meter run where he crossed the finish line at 14:53.44 to place 28
th. Noah Schaub of Bowling Green State University had the top time of 14:15.87.
"We will gear up for the distance medley relay and 4x400-meter relay next weekend. We have been waiting for our relays to be at full strength before attempting provisional marks," added Morgan.
The Flames are scheduled to compete at the UCS Invitational on Sat., Feb. 17. The invitational will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
