The Lee University women's lacrosse returned to the win column with a 17-5 victory over Lees-McRae College Friday afternoon at Lee's South Quad Field.
The Lady Flames (3-1) held a 9-3 lead at halftime and added eight more goals over the final 30 minutes. Lee set three program records for a single game: most goals scored, fewest allowed and largest margin of victory.
Becca Broadwick led all scorers with six goals and an assist. Brianne Schapira added four goals, while Rachel Duda had two goals and an assist. Mason Cobb, Emma Hill, Kaylyn Dillon, Madeline Perrigo and Abbie Mercuri contributed one goal each. Dillon led Lee with two assists. Lindsey Glass was credited with an assist.
The Bobcats opened the scoring less than 1 ½ minutes into the game with a free position shot by Patterson Jones. The Lady Flames responded with six goals in the following ten minutes.
Lees-McRae tallied its second goal with 18:12 remaining in the opening half. Lee answered back with two more goals to go up 8-2 with 15:25 left.
The Lady Flames tallied the first four goals of the second half to hold a 13-3 advantage with 23:42 remaining in the game. Lees-McRae scored twice in the final 19 minutes, but each time the visitors scored, the Lady Flames replied with two goals of their own.
Lee outshot Lees-McRae 29-19 and put 26 shots on frame, while the Bobcats placed 15 shots on goal.
Abby Sanders started in goal and earned the win after allowing just three goals in a little over 40 minutes played. The junior was credited with seven saves. Christa Hill was subbed in for the final 19:40. The freshman faced five shots and posted three saves.
The Lady Flames return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 28) at Young Harris College. The GSC contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. draw.
