Walk Off Winner Seals DH Sweep for Lady Flames

Beatenbough Pitches Lee To Win in Game One, Hits Walk off Winner in Game Two

The Lee softball team swept a doubleheader from Young Harris College on a cold, blustery Wednesday from Butler Field.

The Lady Flames won game one 5-1 thanks to the pitching of Leigh Beatenbough and a big three-run home run from sophomore Abby McKinney.

Lee rallied for two runs in its final at bat to secure the sweep with a 4-3 walk-off victory over the Mountain Lions in the night cap. Bailey Church tied the game on a pinch-hit opposite field single and Beatenbough sent everyone home with a clutch two-out base hit.

The Lady Flames improve to 16-16 on the year while the losses drop Young Harris to 19-10 overall.

Lee will jump back into conference play on Friday as they open up a three-game series with Auburn Montgomery from Butler Field.

GAME ONE – LEE 5 YHC 1
Beatenbough dazzled in the circle tossing a complete game to lead the Lady Flames to the 5-1 win in Wednesday's opener. The senior allowed just one run on three hits while striking out six.

The Mountain Lions jumped on the board first on a sacrifice fly from Shope in the top of the third.

The lead was short lived however as the Lady Flames scored two runs in the bottom of third on a wild pitch and a RBI single off the red hot bat of Taylor Moran.

McKinney would provide the Lady Flames with plenty of insurance as she launched a three-run blast in the fifth inning for her second home run of the season. The sophomore finished the game a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish.

Dharma Rosbrugh (13-5) allowed all five runs on eight hits for Young Harris. She struck out eight and walked two. The ace of the Falcons staff entered the game with a 1.65 ERA.

Moran finished with two hits while Sam Hill added a double and a single after she took over at third base for Stevie Baird who was injured on a stolen base attempt earlier in the game.

GAME TWO- LEE 4 YHC 3
The Lady Flames overcame an early deficit to complete the sweep of the Mountain Lions, 4-3 with a pair of runs in their final at bat.

Coach Emily Russell pushed the right button in calling on pinch hitter Bailey Church. The sophomore roped a one-out single to right field to score Kayla Louie and tie the game at 3-3.  After a groundout and an intentional walk to Moran the game was in Beatenbough's hands with two outs.

Down to her final strike Beatenbough fought off a 1-2 pitch and snuck it through the right side to score Lily Hatcher and seal the comeback for the Lady Flames.

Shonna Penney (7-6) battled for the full seven innings allowing three runs while scattering eight hits. The freshman struck out six and walked just one.

Trailing 3-1 in the sixth the Lady Flames responded as Brooklynn Frazier drilled a solo home run to straightaway center to cut into the margin before the seventh inning rally.

Moran and Fraizer both tallied two hits while McKinney singled to give her four hits on the day.

Rosbrugh was tagged with the loss (13-6) for the second straight game as she allowed both runs in the seventh after coming in relief of the starter, Shope who threw five innings allowing two runs on seven hits. Shope struck out eight.
