CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Lee lacrosse team fell to the University of Charleston 13-6 in a non-conference road contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Flames (7-5) were led by Becca Broadwick with three goals. The freshman leads the team with 43 goals and 54 points. Following close behind was Kaylyn Dillon with two. Madeline Perrigo wrapped up the score sheet with one goal.
The Golden Eagles (6-3) locked down the Lady Flames in the second half allowing just two goals. Kyre Tyre recorded 13 saves for Charleston.
The Golden Eagles got the scoring started three minutes and thirty-six seconds into the game on a goal by Aryanna Jones.
Lee responded with a goal 23 seconds later from Broadwick to tie it up at one apiece. The two teams would trade scores until Charleston went on a three-goal run to take a 5-2 lead with 11:41 remainig in the first half.
The Lady Flames responded with two consecutive goals from Broadwick to cut the margin to one with 1:31 remaining in the half. UC responded however to push the halftime lead to 6-4 with 53 seconds before the halftime buzzer sounded.
The second half started with a three-goal run by the Golden Eagles with scores from Esther Yi, Abby McGowan and Peyton Harris to make the lead 9-4.
Perrigo broke up the run with 24:15 remaining in the game to cut the margin to 9-5.
UC put the game away with three straight scores again to take a commanding 12-5 lead with 8:47 remaining.
Jones led all scorers with four goals. Yi scored a hat trick for the Golden Eagles. Emma Renda was the only other player with multiple goals. Harris, McGowan, Rock, and Youngman all found the back of the net to round out the Charleston scoring.
Abby Sanders was given the loss in the game. Sanders started in net and allowed four goals, saving one, in just 15:15 of action. Christa Hill played 44:45 in goal and allowed nine while stopping seven.
The Lady Flames are back in action on Mar. 28 as they jump back into conference play to face Young Harris College at 4 p.m.
