WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Thanks to a furious second half comeback the Lee Lacrosse team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 18-16 on Monday night.
Becca Broadwick scored what proved to be the game-winner, her eighth goal of the game, with 2:46 left to give the Lady Flames a 17-16 lead.
Lee (4-2) would take a 3-1 lead to start the game with goals from Mason Cobb, Rachel Duda, and Kaylyn Dillon just 4:55 into the game. Palm Beach Atlantic (1-5) answered with a four-goal run to take a 5-3 lead with goals from Dom Barber (2 of the four), Grace Bartlinski, and Chanel Nassir.
After PBA took a 13-7 lead into halftime Coach Wadley's squad exploded for 11 goals in the final 30 minutes including six from Broadwick. Abbie Mercuri started the rally just three minutes into the second half.
The Sailfish tied things up with 4:06 to go as Grace Bartlinski scored her 22
nd goal of the year. The Lee ladies responded with Broadwick's goal and put the icing on the cake when Dillon scored a man-up goal with 1:26 remaining to push the final to 18-16.
Lee was paced by Broadwick with eight goals, her third hat trick in a row. Emma Hill recorded her first hat trick of the season finishing with three goals, as Dillon recorded her second in a row with three goals. Cobb, Duda, Mercuri, and Hannah Rotello rounded out the Lady Flames scoring.
Christa Hill started in goal for the first time this season and was credited with her first collegiate win, saving 12 of the 36 shots she faced.
PBA had two girls record a trick with Bartlinski scoring five, and Barber scoring four goals. Julia Del Carmen, Nassir, and Morgan LeBlanc all scored multiple goals with two apiece. Alyssa Yates scored the only other goal for the Lady Sailfish.
The Lady Flames held a 12-3 advantage in saves and held a dominating 24-12 edge in draw controls. Lee overcame despite being outshot (24-36), having less ground balls (22-27), and more turnovers (35-23).
Lee will be back in action on Thursday at South Quad Field as the Lady Flames take on NYACK college at 11 a.m. before stepping back into Gulf South Conference play with a trip to Montevallo on Saturday. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
