No. 2 Nighthawks sweep Lady Flames

Lee Heads To Miss. College Looking To Snap Losing Streak

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Playing a daunting portion of the schedule the Lee softball team dropped both games of Wednesday's doubleheader to No. 2 North Georgia.

The Lady Flames lost game one, 9-4 before falling in the nightcap 10-1 to the Nighthawks.

UNG opened things up with a three-run second and a six-run fourth in the opener. Jordan Deep led the Nighthawks with a RBI double and a single.

Shonna Penney (4-5) was tagged with the loss as she gave up six runs, four earned in three innings. Leigh Beatenbough worked three innings of relief and allowed three runs on five hits. All of those runs were unearned.

Taylor Moran continued to swing her hot bat as she roped an RBI double in the sixth inning to account for Lee's final run in the seventh.

Kayla Louie was the only Lady Flame to have two hits in the contest. The leadoff hitter also scored two runs.

Kylee Smith (12-0) remained unbeaten in the circle for North Georgia as she hurled all seven innings and struck out 10. Smith walked four and allowed four runs, two earned on five hits.

The nightcap was more the same as North Georgia's Brittany Gilliam hit a grand slam to cap a five-run first inning en route to a 10-1 win over the Lady Flames..

The Nighthawks would limit Lee to just one hit in the contest, a Beatenbough run-scoring double in the fourth frame. UNG scored in all four innings it batted.

Erika Greek (1-2) labored through four innings allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on eight hits. She walked five a struck out a pair.

Amber Johns (9-0) tossed four innings in the circle for the victory. She allowed just one run on one hit, punched out three and did not walk a batter.

Lee will look to stop a five-game skid on Friday as it travels to Mississippi College to take on the Choctaws beginning at 5 p.m.
