Chargers Outlast Lacrosse in 20-12 Victory

The Lee lacrosse team fell to the University of Alabama Huntsville, 20-12 on a sun-filled Wednesday afternoon from the South Quad Field

The loss drops the Lady Flames to an even 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the GSC. The win sends UAH to 10-3, 4-1 in the GSC.

"I am so proud of our performance. We fought really hard throughout every minute of this game. We got off to a good start and battled late but Huntsville really controlled the middle part of the game" said Head Coach Addie Wadley.

With Lee trailing by just one goal at 6-5 the Chargers went on a four-goal run to the end half and extended the rally with the first four goals of the second half to take a commanding 14-5 lead and put the game out of reach.

The Lady Flames were paced by Kaylyn Dillon with four goals. Brianne Schapira, Emma Hill and Hanah Rotello had two goals each. Madeline Perrigo and Becca Broadwick tallied one each to round out the scoring.

Lee got the scoring started with a goal from Broadwick 59 seconds into the game, and Hill followed it up with 23:52 left to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.

Huntsville answered with a three-goal run to take the lead as the two teams would trade leads until UAH went on a 7-1 run to end the first half and take a 10-5 lead into the locker room.

The Lady Chargers did not let up out of the break and continued their run and stretched the lead to 14-5 behind two goals each by Alanna Carvalho and Abbey O'Brien.

"We had a little bit of trouble at the end of the first half, but we really did a good job to come back and fight hard," said Wadley.

Lee was able to keep the game within nine goals trading scores back and forth before the Lady Flames attempted a comeback with a three-goal run to cut the lead to 17-11 with 7:32 remaining. The run included a goal from Hill and a man down goal from Dillon both set up by Emily Osborne.

Schapira concluded the Lady Flames run with a highlight-reel no look scoop goal into the back of the net with 7:32 remaining.

Huntsville put the game out of reach with a three-goal run of its own in just under four minutes and put the score at 20-11 with an Abbey O'Brien goal with 50 seconds left.

"We battled today, this is a team that beat us by 20 goals last time, so we are pleased with the effort today," Wadley noted.

Crista Hill started in goal for Lee and allowed 17 goals to go along with seven saves over 46:20. Abby Sanders worked the remaining 13:40 in net giving up three goals while registering three saves.

The Lady Flames will wrap up their regular season on Saturday and take on Shorter at 1 p.m. while honoring their seniors. "Both of our seniors [Brianne Schapira and Hanah Rotello] have made a huge impact over the past couple years. Both are starting players and captains. We are so grateful for everything they've done in their time," said Wadley.
