The year of firsts continued for the Lee lacrosse team (9-8, 3-5 GSC) as it clinched its first Gulf South Conference tournament appearance with a 19-2 rout over rival Shorter on a beautiful Friday night from the Lee soccer field.
 
In the first home night game in the history of Lee lacrosse the scoring got started quickly with an Emma Hill goal one minute and 53 seconds into the game to jump start a 6-0 run that the Lady Hawks (0-9, 0-7 GSC) could not recover from.
 
Prior to the game the lacrosse team honored Brianne Schapira and Hannah Rotello as the first two seniors in the history of the second-year program.
 
"We had a long conversation about staying focused and playing our game. We did some stuff for our seniors in the beginning. We had a video for them in the team house. You know there's a lot of emotions beforehand and then it was 'Hey guys we are playing this game for our seniors', You know we have an ever-growing list of people we are playing for. Obviously, God is at the top of that list, but the seniors were the next ones on that list." said head coach Addie Wadley.
 
Becca Broadwick led all scorers with four which included her 60^th goal of the year. The Granger, Indiana native is now fourth in the nation in goals on the year. Brianne Schapira fittingly scored three goals in the first senior night for the Lee lacrosse squad.
 
"The two of them [seniors] have just been leaders from the get go. We have absolutely loved having them on the team, and we are going to miss them a lot," noted Wadley.
 
Shorter was able to break up the shutout with 15:13 left in the first half with an Aubrey Geiger goal. Lee then went on an 8-0 run to end the first half and go into the locker room with a commanding 14-1 lead.
 
Coach Wadley's squad did not let up as they continued to pour it on jumping out to an 18-1 lead thanks to a 4-0 run to start the second half to conclude a streak of 12-straight scores stretching over 35 minutes of the game in the dominating performance.
 
Madeline Perrigo threw three goals in to round out the hat tricks for the Lady Flames. Rachel Duda and Hanah Rotello had two each. The Hill sisters had one goal each to round out the Lee scoring.
 
All of Shorter's offense came from Aubrey Geiger who recorded both goals for the Georgia squad.
 
Christa Hill got the start and win in goal going 45:10. Hill allowed one goal and stopped six shots from hitting the back of the net. Abby Sanders finished out the final 14:50 of the game allowing one and saving one.
 
The Lady Flames had complete control from the opening draw control getting the first of 19 for the team, allowing the Lady Hawks to only snag three. Lee outshot their opponents (34-13), had more shots on goal (24-9), and was able to snag more ground balls (35-30) in the mercy rule game.
 
The game closed on a special note as Christa Hill came out of goal to come in the field and scored off a pass from her sister Emma Hill with nine seconds left to end the special night for the Lady Flames.
 
"The girls just brought it really hard tonight. That's something we've been talking about. Especially after the UAH game. They fought so hard in that game, and to carry over that energy was awesome," concluded Wadley.
 
The Lady Flames will be back in action on Apr. 27 in the first round of the GSC tournament. The opponent will be announced next week as the rest of the conference wraps up their regular season play. The host will be the number one seed in the tournament.
